Occupational Therapy
At Canoe Therapy, our Occupational Therapists help children live life to their full potential. They help your child develop practical life skills, self-regulation and problem-solving skills to participate to their full potential in school, self-care and play. Using sensory integration, perceptional motor training and cognitive-based interventions, our therapists analyze the activity a child wants to achieve and find the least invasive way to enable the child to be successful. We then custom design a therapy program that best suits your child’s needs to maximize their independence in all aspects of their life, from play to self-care and from education to adult life roles.
Our Occupational Therapists work closely with family members and school teams to create unique solutions for your child to successfully achieve the task or find a way to work around the challenge while maintaining their maximum independence. Occupational Therapy builds:
- Gross motor skills – balance and coordination for standing, walking and jumping
- Fine motor skills – holding a pencil or fastening a shirt button
- Oral-motor skills – drinking or chewing
- Visual-motor skills – drawing or catching a ball
- Sensory processing challenges – over-responsivity, sensitivity to touch or sound, attending in class
- Writing skills – letter formation and spacing
- Self-help skills – organizational skills and hygiene routines
Always accountable to our industry standards.
