Emotional-Regulation
Challenges with regulating emotions are often a sign of underlying stress. This stress can be from a myriad of sources. Our team of counsellors and occupational therapists are adept at helping to find the source of this stress and to teach skills and habits to help manage these triggers. The stress may be inherent in the child’s brain (learning challenges, developmental delays) or be caused by things in the environment and be an issue with sensory processing. We can help you determine the best approach, whether with counselling, occupational therapy or a combination of both, to help your child find greater ease with life’s bumps.
Some signs that your child may be struggling with emotional regulation:
- Disproportionate reactions that do not match the severity of the situation
- Extreme mood swings
- Frequent arguments and misunderstandings with loved ones or friends
- Have difficulty calming down
- Isolating themselves from friends and family to avoid emotional triggers
