Transition to Post- Secondary
There is increasing pressure on teens to have it all figured out. “So, what are your plans next year?” is the constant question teens face all throughout their grade 12 year. Narrowing down options and then navigating the application process for post-secondary education is stressful for both the teens and the parents. At Canoe, we have therapists who are experienced with this transition to post-secondary and can help you find your way. We offer support to help determine career aspirations and what pathways are available to get there. As well, we can help set your teen up for success with accommodations to help carry any Individual Learning Plans (IEP’s) from high school forward to the world of post-secondary. There are some signs that your teen may be struggling with the process of transitioning to post- secondary:
- Academic Burnout
- Self-Care Neglect
- Imposter Syndrome (persistent self-doubt or a vocalized feeling that they “don’t belong” or aren’t as capable as their peers)
- Unhealthy Coping Mechanisms
- Withdrawal and Isolation
- Physical Symptoms (frequent headaches, stomachaches, or muscle tension with no clear physical cause)
