Learning Challenges
Neurodiversity is the understanding that everyone’s brain is different. We all process information in our own ways. When our brain does not work in the linear way that traditional education is taught, there is stress and friction. At Canoe, we understand the impact that learning challenges have on a child. Our team of psychologists are adept at psycho-educational assessments that will explore and diagnose learning needs. Once the nature of challenges is defined, strategies are created to help support the child so that they can find success with school and beyond. Ongoing counselling can then help kids and parents navigate this process and learn skills catered to how they best learn.
Some signs that your child may be experiencing some learning challenges:
- Trouble recognizing letters, learning sounds, rhyming, or understanding meaning
- Poor handwriting, an unstable or awkward pencil grip, difficulty expressing ideas on paper, and frequent spelling errors
- Struggling to understand basic concepts like addition/subtraction, confusing math symbols, or having trouble counting
- Delays in learning to talk, trouble finding the right words, or difficulty understanding what others are saying
